Foods to Avoid with Arthritis

And there are different arthritis types such as Gouty Arthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoarthritis or Psoriatic Arthritis. Foods to avoid with Arthritis in general

SaltYou should follow a low-salt diet schedule as salt causes water retention which strains the the joints and muscles. As a result, your swelling in joints is worsened.


Saturated and Trans FatsGaining weight when consuming too many foods containing saturated fats (fatty meats, butter, palm, cheese, whole milk, coconut, ice cream, ect.) and trans fats (fried foods, fast food, donuts, cookies,  pies, ect.) will put more pressure on your joints which can cause cartilage breakdown and joint damage.

Dairy Products - Milk, eggs or yogurt will increase joint inflammation and joint pain which you should avoid. However, you can use low-fat dairy products as alternatives.
Alcohol - Alcohol can interact with your arthritis medications leading to adverse effects. Therefore, you should quit drinking while treating arthritis.

Nightshade Vegetables - Nightshade vegetables contain alkaloid triggering chronic joint and muscle pain. Nightshade vegetables include sweet and hot peppers, pepinos, cape gooseberry, tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant, tomatillos, ground cherry, ground cherries, chinese lanterns, ect. Gouty Arthritis causes an attack of sudden burning pain, swelling in a joint, and stiffness, usually a big toe. This arthritis type is usually found in men.

  • Hearts, bacon, goose, grouse, livers, kidneys, mutton, veal, turkey, partridge, pheasant, ect.

  • Table salt
  • Mushrooms
  • High fat foods

  • Alcohol
  • Tobacco
  • Fried and grilled foods
  • Processed foods

  • Citrus fruits (lemon, lime, berries, and orange)
  • Pasteurized dairy products
  • Excessive salt, sugar
  • Saturated fats and cooking mediums

Foods to avoid with Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis is degeneration of cartilage leading to joint pain and joint deformation.
  • Saturated fats
